First of all, we want to again say thank you to everyone who has prayed and continues to pray for our Heather!!!!! There have been signs of improvement throughout today, such as...
1. She has been a little more alert at times when aroused, but isn't considered fully awake.
2. Though Heather is still intubated, she is doing most of the breathing with a little assistance from the ventilator.
The results of the EEG reading is showing that seizures are still firing from the left side of her brain. Dr. Neimat just left her room and gave us some explanation that helps to better understand why this could be happening. He explained that there are areas of the left hemisphere that they do not take out, and the blood supply keeps that part of the brain alive. He is confident that all of the areas that were disconnected were disconnected and at this time does not feel as though the seizures are crossing over to the right hemisphere. Since the parts that were left are still living, they do have the capability to continue to fire activity and are probably more aggravated by the surgery. He isn't real alarmed that she is needing longer to wake up, because he stressed that she underwent a very extensive surgery. He also stated that during the surgery there is extra fluid and possible blood that gets into the ventricles and the brain has to recover because it isn't used to having the extra fluid, etc.
We have had to learn in the past 20 years to be patient and that isn't always an easy thing to do. We have also had to learn that anything can happen and change in a matter of moments. We don't lose sight of our hope even when the news isn't what we would like to hear. We still believe that the Lord is working all this for His Good and for His Glory. We are in continuous prayer for Heather as she is in the hands of the Great Physician.
